March 2000: I am married, sixty-eight years old, retired, a father of three and a grandfather
of seven children. In recent years I have been musing about my earlier
experiences, some enjoyable, some not. I have begun to write some of them
partly for my grandchildren to enjoy, and partly to get them off my chest.
