September 2000: I was born in 1927 in a small village in Louisiana, called
Meridian. My family moved to DeRidder, Louisiana, when I
was eight-years old. I graduated from Beauregard Parish
Training School, Southern University, Baton Rouge, in 1944, at
the age of sixteen. I received my Masters degree from North
Western State University. After marriage and a family, I went
back to school and graduated from Southern University in
1959. After Integration of schools, I came back to Louisiana
and taught in Sabine Parish Schools for seventeen years and
in Vernon Parish for one year. I retired from teaching in 1989
and have devoted most of my time to babysitting my
grandchildren and writing. I became serious about writing
biographies and short stories about my family in 1987. I have
quite a few stories and a book of poems that I have not
published.
