LOOKING FOR PRODUCERS FOR DV MOVIE PROJECTMy name is K.L.Storer. I am an actor and film maker in southwestern Ohio (greater Dayton area). I'm looking for a second producer and also a co-producer, (both who live in or close to the greater Dayton, Ohio area), for at least one DV movie project. Currently, I have two projects on the table. I plan to direct both.
SECOND PRODUCER:
My second producer is attracted to involvement in such projects but his or her forte and interest is more administrative, so this producer will be a quasi executive producer: I need a second producer who wants to tackle the budget. Your function as second producer is to raise production money and charm permissions from corporations for product use (and perhaps money) based on credits and screen appearance. Mr./Ms. second producer may also play some role in other producer's duties, but those would be a distant second to the fund raiser and budget guy/gal job.CO-PRODUCER:
You will be heavily involved in location scouting, the gathering of the materials (props, set dressing, etc), and other producer's duties. You will also, for all practical purposes, work as line producer. Are you someone who would enjoy either of these?
PAY (?):
I do want to pay cast and crew for their efforts, though we are looking at something like low-pay stipends rather than SAG, AFTRA and other union's scale. But I'd like for it to be more than token pay, especially for the second production. We producers, (and I as director), will not receive direct salary fees for our services. We would be doing this foremost for the love of the craft and the experience toward loftier goals, but with an eye on marketing our product. However, you and I will not consider any lack of income a failure. I am most interested, in these exercises, in making a damned good movie and I want a team of producers whose primary goal is the same. We will submit to film festivals and accept any cash winnings, however, without a blush.CAST/CREW:
I have a DP but no cast nor other crew at the moment, though I do have access to several decent pools of talent when the time for a casting call comes.THE PROJECTS:
The first project is the screen adaptation of a classic American literary staple, which can be artistically approached from a variety of angles and can easily incorporate different conceptualizations for different segments. I have not begun the screenplay, but it can be easily written during production, because we can compartmentalize the elements of the movie as much as we want without threatening cohesiveness. This project could started shooting during the summer of 2008, depending on when we get preproduction rolling. The length is also malleable. The second project is a longer short movie (approx 30:00-40:00) based on my original screenplay which is in a finished but not final draft. I want to shoot this starting in warm weather in 2009, no later than late summer because I want warmer weather for the exteriors. We would shoot all the exteriors first if we are pushing closer to autumn. This one will call for more work in terms of location scouting and will need the bigger budget of the two. Preproduction will need to be much longer for this one, including the casting process. It's possible we would be into phases of preproduction on this second project while we are in phases of the first project.
