Why should I care
For a neighbor in need.
Why should I care
For the lonely at heart
When my own world falls apart.
The sun shines brightly
in a deep blue sky,
But this is a cold land
Of distant souls
This is a stranger's land
So why should I care.
An angry heart,
An anguished soul
The embittered thoughts,
Of a frustrated mind
Daring to ask,
"Why should I care!"
Why I should care
when hopelessness leads to nothingness.
If despair of the downhearted
And rejection of the defeated
Leads to bitterness
Tell me, "why should I care."
But I should choose against my feelings
And go with the choice of compassion.
I must meet the needs of the disadvantaged.
For if I don't care
Then who will?
