know your lines

you are @ the turning point
where thoughts and feelings
principles and ideals
are pressed up tightly,
white-skinned and bare-knuckled
against a polycarbonate windowpane

of instant pics and home shopping,
pamela-pages galore with 1 billion served,
where things are much more than thoughts.
do you have the four-wheel drive,
pure bred-pup, the golden cup
and all the other stuff?

Sometimes I feel like I am going "there"
you know -- where Renton is headed in Trainspotting
The more of it I see -- the more of me is lessened

Until I find Treasure!
the sweet soul release of a James tune
-- you know they mean it!
Or The Skin of a Lion by Ondaatje
-- he knows Toronto laborers!

I have a friend mountain climbing and bike racing
-- living in his van and on his dreams -- he has it.

Some days I have it. Do you?
don't let it go
tell me.

my name is barfly and I am almost thirty
Heston said in Planet of the Apes

"don't trust anyone over thirty"
he was hollywood anyway

Author Notes

In regards to "lines" and "more lines":
it was a real spur of the moment thing -- no editing, no second thoughts.
