Before you see the sun on the horizon
There is a brief time when soft light will bless
Rising gently as the night dies at dawn
What the day will bring we can only guess
But for now, there is a moment of truce
In the eternal war of light and dark
Before the crow caws in looming spruce
And the sleepy dog lifts his head to bark
In dim new light is a shining promise
Of when the morning sun will paint all in gold
And songbirds will herald the coming bliss
Knowing soon that warmth will banish cold
In the early light a pure hope can give
The desperate soul a reason to live
Nature's Gift
I have seen the eclipse of the sun and the moon
I have flown on the hurricane's tail
I have walked strange broken shores of driftwood and dune
Smashed by crested wave and autumn gale
I have gazed on the cold blue mountains of morning
From a sparse forest of stunted pines
I have felt the glaring heat of desert burning
Where the plants were protected by spines
I have heard the wind rush through a forest of trees
Rising from a whisper to a roar
I have looked on summer storm in prairie wheat seas
On vast horizon like heaven's door
I have watched silent snowflakes float in a white dream
Ending with stars bright in Night's great bowl
I have learned when Nature is at its most extreme
To stop thought and commune with my soul
Gaia
A jewel in the night
Blue Earth hangs in space
Distorted Eden
For the human race
She has mystery
In her body round
I've seen at sunset
And fresh morning sound
Always beautiful
If my eyes perceive
From high dark mountain
To quicksilver sea
Through windchime forest
To soft desert sand
Sky and cloud surround
Wed water and land
Into a world of worlds
For each form of life
To serve their hard time
And so learn by strife
And by watching her
In mood and season
To view the pattern
That defies reason
In its scope and scale
And kind cruel sense
Behold immanent
One intelligence
One Night
Love, by moonlight clear we shall meet this night
Near glinting water by the willow tree
Our faces glowing in soft silver light
And for one wild moment in time be free
Of our steady orbit around this earth
And the gravity of our foregone fate
To soar among the stars of our rebirth
To seize our love before it is too late
For you and I have seen how time and chance
Mock quiet patience and make ardor cool
So while our hearts beat, this eve we shall dance
Quick as a rose or long as a jewel
It may last for life or die all too soon
But this night love lives at least one full moon
