Mr. Cat & Mr. Mouse

It was an average night
In an average house.
The pussycat and the mouse
Were careering round the house.

They ran down the stairs
And rushed up the hall.
Straight into the kitchen
And through the back door.

Out into the garden
And up the garden path.
Then Mr. Mouse turned
And he started to laugh.

"Mr. Cat you must be tired,
Chasing me round like this."

"Don't push your luck," said the cat,
And he started to hiss.

"You have no chance of catching me,
I'm faster than you.
I'm smaller than you
And I'm cleverer too.

"You've chased me for years
Yet there's nothing you can do.
So why not give up
And we'll call it a truce."

"That's never gonna happen,"
Said Mr. Cat to Mr. Mouse.
"You're a filthy little rodent
And this is my house."

"A rodent maybe,
But filthy I am not.
And to claim it's your house,
Well, I've never heard such rot.

"You parade around the house
Like the lord of some manor.
Disturbing my peace
With your noise and your clamour.

"You're full of ideas
About how you will eat me.
But I'm afraid Mr. Cat,
That you are never gonna beat me."

At this Mr. Cat,
He started to cry.
He said, "I'm sorry Mr. Mouse
But I do have to try.

"I'm not even hungry
And I don't really like mice.
But the food my owner feeds me,
Well, it's just not very nice.

"Full of liver and paté
And strange crunchy bits.
But if I catch me a mouse
I get extra little treats.

"It's my owner you see,
She's scared to death of you.
She says, Catch him Mr. Cat!'
So what can I do?"

So Mr. Mouse said "Let me think..."
And he came up with a plan.
"Listen to me Mr. Cat
And I'll do what I can."

So Mr. Mouse and Mr. cat
Sat and thought for a while.
When all of a sudden
Mr. Mouse started to smile.

"I've an idea,
That is certain to please.
And all that I ask
Is a small piece of cheese."

He leaned over to Mr. Cat
And whispered in his ear.
Mr. Cat began to grin
And his frown disappeared.

"Very well Mr. Mouse,
I shall do as you say.
And maybe my life
Will get better today."

So Mr. Cat opened his mouth
And Mr. Mouse climbed in.
And together they trotted
Back into the kitchen.

Mr. Cat "meeoowed"
And his owner walked in.
"Well done Mr. Cat,
I told you we'd win."

She opened the fridge
And pulled out a treat.
A huge slice of cheesecake
Was placed at his feet!

His owner walked out
With a smile on her face.
And Mr. Cat dropped MR. Mouse
Right in front of the plate.

"Well, Mr. Mouse,
I can't thank you enough.
I hope you will forgive me
For all that nasty old stuff.

"This cake is for you.
You deserve it for sure.
We can do this again
And she is bound to give us more!

"Mr. Mouse my new friend,
You're a devious chap,
But you're smarter than me
I will grant you that.!"

Mr. Mouse how he laughed
And then started to dance.
"You see Mr. Cat,
Life is all about chance.

"We've settled our differences,
I hope that this is the end.
We've both got some cheesecake,
And found a new friend."
