Rain Sounds Different When You're Alone

Rain sounds different
when you are alone.
It is a hollow whisper
Rising up from the
Hot city pavement.
Walking in the rain
Washes the sweat
From your arms.
The baked on exhaust fumes
Are dark streaks on your face.
It also cleanses your mind.
Water refreshed by the sun,
Revitalized, enhanced.
Pouring over your thoughts
Seeping into your identity.
Stop and just stand there.
Watch the drops as they
Rush to meet your cheeks.
Hold out your arms
And feel every touch.
People are all around you.
Traffic is everywhere.
But you are alone.
They do not know you.
You exist for yourself.
Rain sounds different
When you are alone.
It is the heartbeat
of your lover.
It is your peace.
