Life to Death Death to Life
-- For Jenny

A minute here,
A moment gone,
The hour's faded,
A day has drawn to a close
Minutes of joy --
Lifetimes of heartache.
Peace of mind
Heart at ease,
And then the breath fades,
Thoughts end,
The mind ceases to be
A part of her soul
Yet the world still spins,
Music still plays,
The sun continues to rise
And the night will still fall.
Children still play,
Life is still created;
Even in her death
Life shall never fall
Her untimely demise
Is simply natures way,
"Ashes to ashes,
Dust to dust"
In life we experience death,
And in death we find life

Alone

Alone I sit,
Surrounded by the insistent chatter,
No words I hear,
Just a symphony of sound
Incessant laughter,
A joyous day,
And yet alone I sit,
Isolated I think and question.
In solitude I do see,
The beauty in friendship,
And the power of love
A bond that lives,
Even in death
The simple bond persists.
Yet alone I sit
And in silence I hear;
The depth of life,
The in durability of love,
Alone I sit,
Alone I learn,
And alone I see

Author Notes

I first submitted a work with The WriteGallery about four years ago since then my poetry has altered dramatically. Lives have been lost, and lives have begun during this time. "Life to death...Death to Life" was the poem I wrote after a dear friend of mine was killed needlessly in a car crash. I hope that this poem displays the love that her friends and I had for her.
