Then I Was a Child

It was years ago,
Then I was a child.
Then nights were more blackened.
My thoughts were more whitened.
The moon used to smile at me.
Birds did not fear me.
There, it was full with big trees,
Behind our house.
At night I heard sounds,
From back there.
My grandma said,
"It's them, Chathan and Kali!
They are discussing,
What to do in the night!"
I hid myself
Under the blanket.

I am from Kerala, India, the God's Own Country. I lived my
childhood in a village where the belief, culture and history are tied to
each other. I think the experiences which I underwent are unique. I
feel nostalgic and my heart aches to go back. If it was the
geographical distance, I can catch a flight, train or a car; but how I will
go back through the distance of time?
